I had an urge to build a kit car after years of biking, so I bought some magazines and they all talked about Beetles as the starting point.

So, I bought one! Just needed a few bits for the MOT? Well, the roof didn’t get changed that year at least, but it did for the next one after the neighbours kids jumped up and down on it! I had that car for 10 years - in many colours and engine set-ups.

I owned Randi Parts, a VW workshop & URO parts dealer in a Currie industrial estate till I broke my neck in a sand rail accident. After a few years recuperation and study, I ended up with a real job, and an unreal one – Founding President of Volksfling!

Basically, back in ’95 I got a message from a W.Robertson asking if I was interested in hiring an old airfield up at Crail to hold a VW event, so I contacted some members of other Scottish VW Clubs and Volksfling was born. This ran for 4 years then Mr. Robertson never paid his dues, so an alternative was sought but never found during the last 7 years. The idea of an alternative VW Show raised its head again last year, but no suitable venue could be found. Then before Christmas last year, Jim & Jean suddenly announced their retirement from SVWOF duties. After nobody else appeared willing to run it, we began to take on the onerous task.

I must stress, this Show is run by barmy people who do it for nothing but love of the VW Scene. I’ve owned a rake of VW’s - mostly air-cooled, from 1915cc Beetles to a 1776cc ‘79 Devon Moonraker Camper (now sold), and even driven a Bug ‘Over the sea to Skye’! I presently own a Seat Ibiza, T4 Minibus (converting to camper at present) and ‘Chuckie’, a ‘72 beetle which is getting a big engine and a turbo or two!

So generally, I’ve been a V-dub nutter since about 1988 - and absolutely love it..!
