VW Shows
We can’t promise the same weather as in 2012 but we can say we will continue to try and improve the show for our visitors.
We will be following the same winning formula we have used in previous years, with both trade and club stands; craft stalls; food traders; free bouncy castle (children only); children’s entertainment; and live bands on Friday and Saturday evenings. We also hope to have a couple of demonstrations in the marquee.
History
Volksfling started back in 1995 when Ian got a message from a farmer named Willie Robertson, asking if he was interested in hiring an old airfield in Crail to hold a VW event. Ian then contacted several members of the VW Clubs in Scotland and Volksfling was born.
The show in Crail ran for four years, with one of the main attractions being the opportunity to race your car against like minded VW owners down a quarter mile strip. Unfortunately, the last Volksfling in Crail was held in 1998.
Over the next few years the idea of resurrecting Volksfling was discussed many times however, despite investigating several different sites, a suitable venue was never found.
In 2004 Jim and Jean Walkinshaw announced their retirement from the Scottish VW Owners Festival (SVWOF), which was held in Biggar every May. When it became apparent that nobody else was was willing to take over the show the Volksfling committee decided that, although the Biggar Showground did not have a drag strip, the old Volksfling could be modified to fit this location. One of the main reasons for this decision was to ensure that Scotland was not left without a VW weekend show.
Volksfling has now been held in Biggar for the past seven years and we have listened to what people have told us, trying to improve the show in line with this feedback . Due to the success of the show over this time, we are now in a position to be able to offer a second show - “Volksfling MK2”, which will be held the last weekend in August (30th August -1st September). This second show will have much the same format as the May show, but we are open to reasonable suggestions on how we can improve the shows.
We hope to see you all in both May and August.
